ParticipantSounds like you made a good start! Your comments remind me of a talk I heard recently.
At our SPSE Immersion conference this summer, we heard an excellent talk by Bob Lesnefsky, “Reaching Hard People.” Not that your neighbor fits that category.
Bob gave a principle that I think applies to a great many people: “when in doubt, hang out.” Bob talked about the great fruit he’s experienced from simply spending time with people, again and again, over time; and setting aside the need to talk to them about Christ right away. Just giving them the gift of your time and attention.
It corresponds well to our listen and befriend stages of evangelization.

And I think it’s helpful for practice to understand and articulate the parts of the kerygma, but that’s primarily about the learning process. As for proclaiming the kerygma to others, its usually better that it happen more naturally and authentically, which means you won’t always say it “right.” But it still might be (together with the grace of God) just what touches the heart of the other person.
