ParticipantThose are good ideas! I would only add that fasting for the first part of the day has been useful to me — difficult, but not so difficult that I cannot do it successfully. I’ll fast until noon, or 3pm.

first, we agree that we must believe in and follow Jesus Christ, right?
second, if we believe in him and follow him, we acknowledge that we also must strive to do his will, right?
third, if we must strive to do his will then we must seek to know his will, right?
fourth, in order to know his will, we should primarily use the Sacred Scriptures, seeking to interpret them correctly, right?
fifth — that’s what I’m trying to do, brother (or sister): I am trying to show you from scriptures, using Christian history (in part) to help us interpret it, that it is the will of Christ that all believers be of one mind and heart, all together in the one church he founded, the Catholic Church.
Clearly, there will be other ways to spin this argument depending on the person you’re talking to.

I’m so glad that you’ve grown in hope from watching the course!
The theological truth that “we’re (stepping into, tapping into…) the stream of grace that already exists in the world” is very important me, and when I learned it, it helped me grow in hope as well. It’s important to understand that the work of salvation is not primarily our work, but God’s. He uses us as instruments, but we are not his only instruments. In one way or another, every person will be given an abundant sufficiency of grace for their salvation.
If we understand this well, it should strengthen our zeal for evangelization and intercession, not weaken it. And it helps us to do it without undue anxiety.
I, too, will pray for your brother-in-law Michael D.

ParticipantIt’s not too different, I think! In praying for the young lady who always puts people down, you’re praying for someone who needs conversion. No need to speculate about the state of her soul; its just clear that what she’s doing is significantly wrong.
Remember also for the sake of Christ to pray and think about ways that you can be of service to her, to show her kindness.

Amen! Each of us has a role in the Body of Christ, and even the most humble members can do great things “in the spiritual economy of Salvation in Jesus Christ.”

Beautiful reflections. I especially like how you brought out that “devout persons fly towards God frequently” instead of leaning too much on statues and candles, etc.; and the idea of “having a spiritual nimbleness.” These are characteristics I’ve found to be important to my spiritual life, but too often I let them slip. I need to cultivate them.
Of the chapters/meditations you read, which was your favorite?
