Our God is so good. He wants us to ask Him for the Holy Spirit, much as a child asks his father or mother for food. And God is more willing to give the Spirit to us than a human parent is willing to feed his child: Jesus said, “If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Lk 11:13).
So let us turn with confidence to our heavenly Father and ask Him for an increase of the Holy Spirit’s work within us! Let’s ask Him to stir up the Spirit He gave us at our Baptism and Confirmation. Let’s ask Him for greater love, faith, hope, holiness, humility, courage, and peace as we step out of our comfort zones to follow Him more closely as missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. Let’s ask Him for greater zeal for souls, and spiritual gifts to serve them. Let’s ask Him now; and then continue to ask Him again and again at each step as we move forward. Whatever spiritual gift we need in each moment; let’s ask Him for it. Let’s practice active reliance upon God as we put into practice what we’ve learned in this lesson and in all the previous lessons in the Introduction to Evangelization module. We know that our Father in heaven is faithful; we will bear fruit for the Kingdom of God.
