Summary
Evangelization has as its exemplar the Person of Jesus Christ who Himself set the example of how to evangelize. Followers of Jesus must imitate Him in the work of evangelization, to be “perfect as [our] heavenly Father is perfect.” In order to do this, evangelists must be in communion with God and His Church. They must also maintain the right balance between love and justice. Maintaining this balance requires that evangelists meet people where they are at, like Jesus with the woman at the well, and try to bring them to conversion and saving faith in Christ. Conversion happens over time, requiring evangelists to accompany people and to sow seeds–the word of God–for the harvest. All are called to follow Christ, but people respond differently. At times, the evangelist may be called upon to do simple things. Other times the evangelist is called to bravery, standing in the breach and interceding for souls. In all, the evangelist makes the right preparations and gives his/her best, but ultimately trusts all to God’s grace and will.
