Introduction: “What Must I Do to be Saved?”
Hello there! I’m Marcus Peter and you’re watching Lesson 3 of module 3 of the online Basic Evangelization Training. The module is “Theology of Evangelization,” and the Lesson is “The Call to Salvation.” In this lesson, we will cover the meaning and the “mechanics” of Salvation, its relation to the moral law, and, most importantly, how salvation is a gift of God’s grace.
In the Gospel of Luke, a man came to Jesus with a question: “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
At the heart of this man’s request is a sincere inquiry into the nature of eternal life …. In response, Christ points to the goodness of God, to the necessity of following the commandments, and calls the man to sell all his possessions in order to follow Him. Doing so would have taught the man how to give up material wealth in humility and learn deeper dependence upon the Good God.
Christ’s response makes it clear that in the course of moving towards our salvation we have to learn to realize that God alone is the source and summit of all of our life. All of our efforts should be rooted in and flow out from love for God. Throughout this lesson, it is this message that I’d like for all of us to hold on to.
