Final Thoughts
In summary, God’s Church is a beautiful gift, but, unfortunately, not everyone sees it as such. People often maintain a variety of false impressions about the Catholic Church, assumed from fundamentally false paradigms. This means the best way to start—the way we should always start—is by asking questions. Try to understand where a person is coming from. People will open up when they feel appreciated, and they’ll feel appreciated when they experience attentiveness to their concerns.
From there, when presenting the case for Catholicism, portray the beauty of the Faith and the promises it contains. Truth has an inherent attractiveness to it, especially when demonstrating goodness (God’s love, for example), but sometimes beauty can become obscured by cultural conditioning or bad experiences people have had with Catholics. It’s our job to restore a proper vision of what the Church is for people and we can begin doing so by focusing as much on forming relationships and being attentive, as we do on presenting arguments.
