• Fort Worth, TX Team Leader • With SPSE since 2013 Is there a scripture passage that you turn to often, or a favorite part of Mass? Yes, both. My favorite scripture passage is John 6:51-59 where Jesus tells us over and over how his flesh is the living bread that came down from heaven, and that whoever eats of this bread and drinks his blood shall have everlasting life. I recite this in my mind as I go up to receive the body and blood of Christ at communion, and during the fifth Luminous Mystery while praying the rosary. For me it is one of the deepest mysteries and I love to meditate on it. My favorite part of Mass is during the Offering of the Chalice in the Tridentine Mass, when the priest invokes the Holy Spirit, saying "Come,Thou, the Sanctifier, God, almighty and everlasting; bless this sacrifice which is prepared for the glory of Thy holy name." The actual calling down of the Holy Spirit at that moment always moves me, imagining God Himself descending and participating, blessing the sacrifice and making it holy. It is incredible to dwell on. What motivates you to evangelize? The Holy Spirit is the motivator, and I consider my activity with SPSE as an evangelist, to be the most important thing I do, along with prayer - the two are inextricably intertwined. I learned this over time, and it was somewhat painful until I learned more about how to pray, and how important the relationship is between the two. I'm not saying I've reached any end game related to prayer and evangelization, I only know that the more I work on my relationship with Christ through prayer, the better and more meaningful my evangelization efforts become. What led you to SPSE? I became aware of SPSE back in 2012 or so, when I heard about it on Catholic radio and I knew right away that I needed to become a part of it. I ran towards it and I'm still running. How has God worked in and through your SPSE team? It really is amazing to see God work through our team. First of all, our team is composed of men and women with the right heart and the right attitude, along with a faithful openness to the Holy Spirit. They are committed to the salvation of souls, and they approach everyone with God's love. SPSE evangelists are a special breed, God-selected even if not self-selected. You can't fake this stuff. Even though we don't often 'see' immediate results with the people we meet, we know by faith that God has already intervened in their lives, just as we know by faith that God has communed with our souls as we pray, providing graces in good measure, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing!
