Fátima is a town in Portugal where the Angel of Portugal and the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children—Lúcia dos Santos, and Francisco and Jacinta Marto—between 1915-1917 for a total of 7-8 apparitions. The messages of the Angel and Our Lady speak of making reparation to God and making sacrifices for the salvation of sinners. In a Secret given to the three children, Our Lady warned of terrible persecutions to come for the Church from Russia spreading errors throughout the world. These errors would be spread via Communism. The most significant error was atheism, which created division and a weakening of faith and belief in God. The answer to these dangers was devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The need for evangelization is great in our present world because it has been affected by the errors foretold by Our Lady at Fátima. The Blessed Virgin’s message reminds us of many truths of the Catholic Faith, such as the existence of God, angels, heaven, and hell. It also calls evangelists to remain united in the bonds of unity and charity in the Catholic Church.
