Atheism—the denial of God—is unfortunately quite common. There are four basic kinds of atheism: emotional, intellectual, indifferent and practical. We can use many arguments to respond to atheists. The contingency argument shows that God is the reason that things exist rather than nothing. The kalam argument shows that God is the best explanation for why the universe began to exist. The teleological argument shows how the universe is finely-tuned and hence requires a fine-tuner. The moral argument shows that God is the foundation of our moral values and duties. The miracles argument demonstrates that, apart from God, certain unexplained phenomena are not able to be understood. Lastly, personal stories make God more credible, by showing how faith in God can fulfill our needs for truth, goodness, and beauty.
