Each section of Scripture, from the Old Testament into the New, is integrated. Together, it tells one story. And as the Old Testament reveals God’s Word, it gradually builds up to the fullness of Christ’s Paschal Mystery, His death and resurrection, His saving act, and its fruits for the world. When we look at the whole of Scripture, from Genesis through Revelation, with the covenants in mind, it helps us understand better the kerygma, the good news, the message, the narrative of salvation, and the faith, hope, and love that flows from them for the life of the world.
And so every part of God’s revelation is related to our salvation. Every part is relevant for evangelization. Pope Francis has spoken about how every part of the Bible is salvific; he’s made a big push in his pontificate for a greater appreciation of Scripture. Let’s all heed his call, and let the “story of salvation,” the story of the covenants, teach us what it is to be a human being created and redeemed by God; let’s enter into more deeply through the Eucharist; and then let’s share this Good News with the world.
