• Novi, MI Regional Missionary • Started with SPSE in 2012 Describe your team - size, location and frequency of evangelization outings, other team gatherings I am forming a parish collaborative street evangelization team with adults from our parishes of St. Chales, Coldwater, St. Mary's Assumption, Bronson, and Our Lady of Gaudalupe, Union City, Michigan. How has God worked in and through your SPSE team? Our forming team is being raised up in courage and authority to step out to build the Lord's Kingdom in our region. A number of parishioners who have had the desire to evangelize, but have been too nervous, have been amazed to discover the joy of being used by the Lord to spread the Gospel through conversations with their neighbors. In this they see they are not alone, that the Lord is using them for His good purposes. What motivates you to evangelize? or What led you to SPSE? God has graced me with a zeal for the salvation of souls, especially in teaching others how God wants to work through them. This zeal flows out of a growing relationship with the Lord that I first entered into at age 40. What is the relationship between evangelization and your spiritual life (prayer)? As I have entered more deeply into a daily dialogue and relationship with the Father, He continues to provide more Holy Spirit driven opportunities for me to mentor others in evangelization, blessings that flow through Jesus. An important component in this for me is frequent use of the sacrament of reconciliation and the Eucharist, which allows for God's gifting out of right relationship. Is there a scripture passage that you turn to often, or a favorite part of mass? Ephesians 4:10-12 - He who descended is He who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. Is there an obstacle you have overcome while leading your team? (tell me about it.) Over time I have come to rely less on my theological understandings and more on prayer and listening for what the Lord is telling me, preparing me for who I will encounter and the words He has for them. I like to always stress to my team the importance of time for prayer and asking God what He wants to do with us when we're evangelizing. I remind them of the importance of letting God be in control so that our efforts bring about divine results. Can you share an "elevator speech" version of your testimony of God's work in your life? Having lived most of my life with a Catholic sacramental consumer mentality, the Lord broke in with relationship following too many failed attempts by me to achieve happiness through things of the world. My restless heart for the first time found peace, fulfillment and a right sense of purpose in Christ. From this I now live a joy-filled life, even in the struggles, with the Spirit's desire in my heart to lead others to what I have, and how to share the blessing with others.
