Practical Activity
It’s time to put what we’ve learned into practice. There are many conversations in contemporary culture about the viewpoints that lead Catholics astray. This practical activity is meant to provide you with some focused training to help you engage with people and have productive conversations on these issues. The activity has 4 steps:
- Open the activity in prayer, asking the Lord to guide your understanding. Then, listen to conversations and debates on particular issues such as Church teaching/authority, sexual morality, etc. For example, tune in to Catholic Answers Live.
- Practice responding to certain points. After a question is asked, pause the recording and chime in as if you were a live participant. Do this a few times.
- If the debate features a Catholic speaker, be sure to offer your response before listening to theirs, but take notes after you hear the Catholic response, especially on points you found to be either very effective, or very ineffective! Imagine how you could weave those points into an attractive and compassionate narrative, since we must always remember the point of evangelization isn’t to win arguments, but to save souls!
- When you are ready, post in the Community Forums about your experience doing this practical activity. There is a specific topic created for this. Also, give a constructive question or comment about the lesson, or somebody else’s post on their experience doing the practical activity. All of this is required for your One Good Reason certificate of completion!
