One Good Reason Course 2 – Lesson 11 Practical Activity

Critique a Debate

It’s time to up our apologetic game. This second practical activity is meant to help us improve our grasp of the arguments for the existence of God. It has 4 steps:

  1. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you greater knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.
  2. Listen to one or more debates on the existence of God, in which competent Christian apologists are involved. Whenever an objection to the existence of God is raised, pause the debate before the apologist responds. Make your own attempt to address the objection. Afterwards, resume the debate to see how the apologist handled the objection.
  3. Answer these questions: In the light of the Christian apologist’s answers, how do you think that you did? Did you miss anything important? Could you have phrased your response differently/better, etc. — and if so, how? Also, did the Christian apologist miss anything? Could his or her response have been phrased differently/better, etc. — if so, how?
  4. When you are ready, please also post in the Community Forums about your experience doing this practical activity. There is a specific topic created for this. Also, give a constructive question or comment about the lesson, or somebody else’s post on their experience doing the practical activity. All of this is required for your certificate of completion for this module!

As you do this practical activity, know that it’s okay if you don’t know how to respond to an objection. The purpose is to make an effort to learn.
